Emil Alzamora was born in Lima, Peru and lives and works in Beacon, NY. His figurative sculpture practice explores notions of transience, beauty, harmony, uncertainty and hope.
While primarily a sculptor, Alzamora's practice also includes painting. In both, he has incorporated various unorthodox approaches and techniques in an effort to explore the human form both physically and psychologically. He often distorts, elongates, encases or deconstructs the subjects with the intention of revealing an emotional or physical situation, or to tell a story.
Employing a wide array of mediums, Alzamora's sculptures are crafted from materials such as bronze, steel, aluminum, ceramics, wood, and cement. Alzamora's keen interest in the physical properties of his materials combined with his hands-on approach allow for the process to reveal and inform at once the aesthetic and the conceptual.
