Thomas Martinez Pilnik at KuBe Art Center for Upstate Art Weekend: Beacon, NY

Overview

Semi-permanent Installation at the KuBe Art Center

Live Performance July 22 (+ July 23 if necessary)

Ethan Cohen Gallery at the KuBe Art Center is excited to present a live clay build performance by Thomas Martinez Pilnik titled (Te) Achei (I Found (You)).

Thomas Martinez Pilnik will construct a 400lb terracotta sculpture during a one-day performance for Upstate Art Weekend.

Using the iconography of an ashtray, cigarettes, and hands, the piece will leverage scale, materiality, and the passage of time to stand as a semi-permanent installation in the former high school space, the KuBe Art Center.

As both a monument and performance, (Te) Achei (I Found (You)) nods to smoke filled hallways, forgotten moments, flashes of nostalgia, and finding the right people, places, and things at the right time.

Dwelling on his British and Brazilian upbringing, and his last decade in the United States, Pilnik plays with words, symbols, and the earth itself through the performative build of this work.
