Overview

Ethan Cohen Gallery at the KuBe Art Center

211 Fishkill Ave, Beacon, NY 12508

May 13 – July 16, 2023

Opening Reception: May 13, 3 – 6 pm

Ethan Cohen Gallery at the KuBe Art Center is pleased to present a retrospective exhibition of internationally acclaimed artist Aboudia.  Representing over a decade of Aboudia’s practice as a graffiti artist and painter, the retrospective encompasses large scale paintings, collages, and drawings, from 2006 through 2022.

Aboudia first gained acclaim for his iconic ‘nouchi’ graffiti style on the streets of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.  From his childhood experiences of growing up in poverty and his beginnings as street artist, Aboudia has a deep well of inspirations to reflect on, and often depicts anonymous children of the streets; his immediate and gestural impressions reflect on the intersection between his own personal past, and the future of humanity.

Aboudia's work champions the vulnerable and innocent children who live in the shadows of colonialism, globalization, African and diasporic cultural traditions. At once both culturally specific, yet universally understood, the immediacy of Aboudia's bold lines and color delineates a space of layered contemplation, visceral physicality, and temporal depth.

The exhibition will be in the Joan Lebold Cohen and Jerome A. Cohen Center for Visual Arts in the KuBe Art Center in Beacon, NY.

Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, May 13, 3 – 6 pm.
