I shot this on location in Springs, New York, layering two sources at once: Manet's “Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe” and a
reclining scene drawn from a third century Roman sarcophagus named the “River Gods”. I cast my own family into
the roles Manet's picnickers once occupied, folding a nineteenth-century scandal and an ancient funerary motif into a
single contemporary tableau.
